Saturday Special – Extra Groups Kakuro

Rules: Solve the puzzle so that the numbers in every horizontal and vertical region add up to the sum indicated for that region. Numbers CAN NOT be repeated in any region. Additional Rule: The yellow groups of 3×3 blocks contain the numbers 1-9 once and only once.  It took me about 10 hours spread out over a week to design this one.  I tried to keep the difficulty and variety high.  Enjoy! Size: 14×14  Difficulty: INSANE

Thanks h3lix – great puzzle. I especially liked having to discover and then apply the new techniques necessary to solve it.

Like wellbeback said, great one. But since you’ve provided the solution pic, and I don’t have the energy for a walkthrough, there’s not much I can post here. 🙄 So next time I suggest you to keep the solution unpublished for a few days.

That would be a good idea. I was modeling my posts after djape’s since he posts solutions along with the puzzles.
    Thanks for the feedback!

A walkthrough and/or some of those new techniques would be great. Only way to learn!

I take an opposite view to udosuk – I like the solution together with the puzzle so I do not waste time chasing ghosts (mistakes…)and getting frustrated

David has a good point, and I suppose it would be a bigger inconvenience for someone who is stuck or made a mistake somewhere to not have the solution than for the solution to be available.

However, it would be fun to have a competitive aspect to the saturday specials 😈

Charmommom, I have posted the beginning of a visual walkthrough here:

Okay, points taken. I agree the solution might need to be there…

My competitiveness is sometimes unreasonably high, once in a while in four years. 😉

I guess I’ll leave the solution on then until I can think of a prize and a puzzle that can’t be solved with any known solvers, like mike’s variant.

Just finished this on a plane after working on it for months on and off. Really great puzzle; I could tell I was solving it the way you intended.
